My 3 Backpacking Luxury Items
When it comes to backpacking, you need to be selective with what you pack because things get heavy fast!
Every ounce adds up, and so everything you carry should have a purpose.
For longer thru-hikes, I’ve heard of backpackers cutting their toothbrush in half to save weight!
This video is not about shaving weight in your backpack.
Instead, it’s all about the items I take backpacking just for comfort or joy.
These things are not essential to my survival, and they add some weight to my backpack, but I still pack them anyway!
See what they are in this video:

My backpacking luxury items:
1. Good Coffee
I don’t mess around with instant coffee in the backcountry.
I love a warm cup of good coffee in the morning, so that’s definitely one of my luxury items.
This is what I pack into the backcountry in order to make coffee:
I like my coffee extra hot - like almost burn-your-mouth-kind-of-hot! That’s why I pack in the titanium mug and lid.
It’s definitely a little extra gear, but I seriously love having a cup of coffee in the morning in the backcountry.
The morning is such a beautiful and special time of day. When I’m at home, I usually sip coffee while I’m doing a million other things.
In the backcountry, I take my time with it.
I love to sip on a fresh cup, listen to nature, wake up for the day, and take a few deep breaths of fresh air.
Totally worth the extra weight.
2. Paper + Markers or Book
I love to pack in a little entertainment!
I usually pack 1 piece of paper and a few markers so I can draw mandalas.
In the video above, you can see one that I drew on a backpacking trip in Colorado.
I love to draw them because I’m not good at drawing, but mandalas are really easy to draw, and they’re a lot of fun!
It’s sort of like a meditation for me.
I also sometimes pack a book in. I love to read, especially when I have lots of time in the backcountry.
Books can definitely add some weight to your pack, but they’re great for a lazy afternoon or waiting out an unexpected rain storm.
My third luxury item is of course a camera! I love making YouTube videos and sharing my backpacking trips with you!
It’s seriously one of my greatest joys!
My boyfriend is a photographer, so we sometimes use his camera to film videos, but lately, I‘ve been using my GoPro.
I absolutely love the GoPro Hero 7.
It’s perfect for backpacking because it’s small, lightweight, and has built in stabilization!
While I love to film and make videos, I do make sure to disconnect and spend time without the phone or camera.
It’s important for me to experience nature, be mindful, and really enjoy time with the people I’m hiking with.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what my luxury backpacking items are!
