These campfire pies make the perfect camping dessert! With only a couple of ingredients, you can create delicious pies even while camping. Change up the filling for all different pie flavors!
Keep the pie dough cold in the cooler until you’re ready to use it. Unroll the dough, smooth out any cracks, and cut out two squares about the size of the pie iron.
Add a spoonful of the apple pie filling onto one of the squares.
Top with the other piece of pie dough.
Using a fork, crimp the edges of the dough together. Place the pie pocket into your pie iron. You can use a spatula to lift the pie pocket if needed.
Heat over the campfire for 10-15 minutes, rotating the pie iron frequently. Once done, the filling should be hot and the pie dough golden brown and flaky!
Carefully remove the pie from the pie iron, let it cool for a few minutes, and serve. Repeat this process for the remaining dough and filling.
Notes
Make sure your pie dough doesn’t get too warm or it will become sticky and difficult to handle. Much like when making pancakes, the first one usually doesn’t come out perfect, but after that, you’ll have a better sense of how to heat the pie iron over the flames. Feel free to swap in other pie-filling flavors: cherry pie, blueberry pie, peach pie, strawberry pie… the possibilities are endless! In a pinch, you can use a stainless steel water bottle as a rolling pin to roll out your pie dough, if needed.
