What’s the Best Filling for Campfire Cones?

This campfire cones recipe is very customizable. You start with simple waffle cones that are typically purchased for an ice cream cone.

Then it’s all about the filling, and for this, there are a lot of options. You can mix almost any kind of chocolate candies, nuts, dried fruits, and mini marshmallows. You could even experiment with fresh fruit like raspberries, banana slices, or a drizzle of jam!

This campfire dessert is best with chocolate and other candies that melt easily. In other words, I would avoid hard candies.

Also think about a mix of textures. Chocolate melts, and marshmallows get puffy and gooey. I like to add chopped nuts and/or shredded coconut for some texture.

How to Make Campfire Cones (a.k.a. waffle cone smores)

To assemble campfire cones, load them up with your fillings, layering the mini marshmallows throughout.

Layering the marshmallows helps the filling stick. This way, everything melts into a tasty, gooey mix!

Wrap your waffle cones in aluminum foil and place them on a grill grate next to the fire.

You don’t want the cones to be directly over the flames; that will be too hot. You want to warm the cones at a low temperature, not grill them.

Cook for 5-10 minutes. Use metal tongs or fire gloves to turn the campfire cones a few times while cooking.

Note >> Cook times will vary depending on how hot your fire is. You can always remove a cone and open it up to check, and then keep cooking if needed.

You can use a spoon to scoop out the inside and then eat the cone, or start by eating the cone. Either way, this easy campfire dessert will be a hit!
