I love camping recipes that are only a few ingredients but pack a ton of protein and flavor.

There are a lot of different brand options for the sweet chili sauce used in this recipe. I love The Ginger People Sweet Ginger Chili Sauce (not sponsored).

But, use any brand you prefer or can find at the store. You can usually find the sweet chili sauce in the Thai food section.

The Ginger People brand includes a lot of ginger in their recipes, which I love!

This Sweet Ginger Chili Beef and Cabbage is perfect for camping trips. It’s easy to make and doesn’t need a lot of cleanup. You can cook it in a large pot or a large cast-iron skillet on a propane camp stove.

If you use a cast iron skillet, use one that’s at least 12 inches. It should be big enough to mix all the ingredients.

This recipe is also very flexible – you don’t need to be precise with the ingredient measurements.

Don’t want to use beef? Feel free to swap in chicken pieces instead. Make sure they’re fully cooked before adding the carrots and cabbage.

How to Make Sweet Ginger Chili Beef and Cabbage

Start by preparing the carrots, cabbage, and ginger so they’re ready to go when needed.

Heat a pot or large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tbsp of olive oil, followed by the beef. Cook for a few minutes until the beef is browned.

Add in the shredded cabbage and carrots. Cook for 2-3 minutes, mixing frequently.

Add in the garlic, Sweet Ginger Chili Sauce, and soy sauce. Mix well and simmer for another couple of minutes.

Mix in the cooked rice packets. Break apart the rice in the packet with your hands first if it’s in one solid block. This makes it much easier to mix in. Cook the rice for about 2 minutes until it’s hot.

Remove from the heat. Top with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve with more soy sauce if desired. Enjoy!

We made this tonight. And we made the Thai chicken last night. Enjoyed both very much. This took me an hour total to prep, cook and eat. We added more rice to Make it last. While we like sure chili sauce we also added Tiger Sauce for a little more kick. Thanks for the recipe which will go in our rotation for camping. I am giving it 5 stars because it is made for quick and easy camping and it is tasty. It’s not gourmet but it does what it is intended to do perfectly and I think it’s pretty darn healthy!

I made this after looking for recipes to use up some cabbage. I got very confused why the chili had no beans or tomatoes, so added a can of black beans. Literally realized only as I was serving it that “chili” referred to the sauce, not that this was a chili recipe! It was pretty tasty! Also couldn’t source the sweet ginger chili sauce, so just used regular sweet chili sauce and a huge knob of grated ginger.
